Female Producers:
Speculations and Reflections

Carolyn Arends

Her first two records on Reunion Records were produced by Brown Bannister who is legendary and great, but he overproduced and candy-coated her "folk" sound. Arends co-produced her third record which was more sparse. It might have been a good thing, but unfortunately, she did not have a whole bunch of strong songs so she ended up losing her record deal. Reed Arvin produced her on the Rich Mullins tribute record, having Alison Krauss & the Union Station accompany her on "Jacob and 2 Women". That was a beautiful sound, fitting her quirky style and making her sound like folk music just might make a comeback if she could get some great songs together and make a whole record like that.
