Left With Broken Dreams, by Allison McCulloch

Left With Broken Dreams

He'd been contemplating leaving
But I begged him not to go
I said what about the children
He said he wouldn't know
But he kissed my face and wished me luck
Said it was time to find
What he had been missing
What he left behind

So I'm Left With Broken Dreams
  And a heartache so deep
  The only way despair
  Will not be there
  Is when I am asleep

He called our son tongith
It was his thirteenth birthday
I heard the darling tell him
He was sad he went away
The man talked the boy into
Going away to him
He said he needed a man
For a mentor and a friend

So I'm Left With Broken Dreams
  And a heartache so deep
  The only way despair
  Will not be there
  Is when I am asleep

So when he took our boy away
He brought his new wife
He was telling Joe about
His wonderful life
When I shut the door I cried
Oh what have I done
To hvae had a husband leave
And then a son

So I'm Left With Broken Dreams
  And a heartache so deep
  The only way despair
  Will not be there
  Is when I am asleep
 Oh despair isn't there
 When I am asleep
Thought I'm left with broken dreams...
