Lesser Scale, by Allison McCulloch

Lesser Scale

If our voices just get deeper
As time goes by
I don't want to hear Fiona Apple
In 20 years
If our choices just get harder
And we find we're bound to lie
I might contemplate truth
So I'm released from my fears

	And on a lesser scale
Of the tragedies/ we know so well
I witnessed the power of the strong
	Today

We're institutionalized
So they can control the insane
I'd drive away but even that isn't peaceful
There's a speed limit
Sometimes I stay at home
And just wait for the rain
But at a moment most opportune
I am caught in it

	And on a lesser scale
Of the tragedies/ we know so well
I witnessed the power of the strong
	Today

E	There is no mercy I witnessed the power of the strong
	On a lesser scale
So who knows what it could come to
